Quantum-security communications are more mature today as they rely on systems such as Quantum Key Distribution (QKD).

The main scope of EQUO is design, develop and test mature QKD nodes with high TRL level (8-9) with cutting-edge technology developed in Europe, ready for integration in telecommunication networks, both for metro and long-distance scenario.

At this aim, a great effort will be put on developing quantum components stable and performant enough to allow efficient integration in a broader QKD system and a specific focus will be given to implementation over even over long distances which, as of today, represent a limit to a wide adoption of QKD systems.

To develop and test QKD nodes with high TRL level (8-9)

To define functional and system architectures for integrating QKD nodes in an operational network over short and long-distance links

To define and prototype management, control and orchestration functionalities compliant with available Standards (e.g., from ETSI) and abstraction models

to develop use-cases where the QKD nodes will be fully integrated in existing telecommunication infrastructures with real traffic applications

To contribute to Standardization efforts. In two main use cases, QKD nodes will be integrated in a real operational contexts providing quantum cybersecurity services for data traffic connection links crossing the metropolitan areas of Tel Aviv (Israel) and Turin (Italy).
